By: Alexandrea van Huizen English-Irish band, One Direction have just released their fourth studio album, aptly named- 'FOUR'. The inter-webs were abuzz when the band decided to tease their new album by releasing the track 'Fireproof' for free download on their official website back in September of this year. In a video message, the guys thanked their fans for standing by and supporting them since the very beginning and also talked about how releasing 'Fireproof' for free was their own way of showing their gratitude. It is undeniable from this album that One Direction have evolved musically and have really found their sound as a band. Moving on from their cookie-cutter boyband image during their debut back in 2011, it is clear now that the boys of One Direction have really grown into men. The songs in this album are more mature and more from the heart. The band have cited personal experiences as their number one motivation when writing the songs. As with most albums, 'FOUR' features a range of tracks from happy dance hits to a few slightly more toned-down ones. 18 It comes as no surprise that Ed Sheeran, who is one of the biggest selling artistes out there and also a close friend to the band, lent a hand in writing this beautiful ballad. There's just something about the soft guitar strums, the lyrics and the way the guys sing with such true emotion that will keep you hooked. Where Do Broken Hearts Go When asked during an interview what their favourite songs off 'FOUR' were, Niall and Zayn both agreed that this track was definitely it. The track has a very nostalgic vibe to it. This song was co-written by band member, Harry Styles with the help of a few other songwriters including Teddy Geiger who is also one of the co-producers of the album. Illusion Illusion A slightly more up-tempo song, this bonus track has a beautiful backstory to it. Liam Payne was having a casual conversation with another writer, Julian Bunetta, about their girlfriends when Julian had the great idea of writing a song based on the stuff Liam was telling him about his girlfriend, Sophia Smith. Fellow band member, Niall Horan, also had a part to play in writing this song while Liam contributed the melody. Fool's Gold One of the few rare tracks where all five members wrote the song together. This song will tuck at everyone's heartstrings only for the simple fact that no matter who you are, you will definitely relate to it. In this one, they sing about unrequited love and not letting go even though it's hopeless to keep hanging on. Night Changes Another one of the rare songs that all the guys wrote together, 'Night Changes' will be the second single off the album. They have already filmed the music video for it and it is set to be released in a few days' time- on the 21st of this month. Interestingly enough, the band filmed the entire music video separately, which is a first for them. It is also Harry Styles' favourite track off the album. In the music video, each of the guys will show you what it's like to go on a date with them. Sounds interesting! While you patiently wait for the music video to arrive, watch this clip of them singing an acoustic version of 'Night Changes'. One Direction has done it once again with 'FOUR', all the tracks are so unique and well executed. It is extremely evident from this album that this band are breaking barriers everywhere by exceeding all the expectations. The band have said that this is probably their best album to date and we can't agree more with them. Don't write these guys off just yet, they will be here for the long-haul. One Direction will begin their next worldwide tour called 'On the Road Again' soon, where one of the shows will be held right here in Singapore on March 11 2015. Download 'FOUR' from the iTunes store or grab your physical copy off the shelves in any music store near you.

By: Alexandrea van Huizen One Direction has just released the music video for their latest single, 'You & I' and I'm pretty sure fans all around the world are in awe. It is such a beautiful love song. Just listen closely to the lyrics, you will understand completely what I mean by that. You can't truly have a successful song without an even better video to go along with it and in my opinion, the lads and director Ben Winston have certainly done just that. The concept behind the video is pretty basic apart from the effects and camera tricks used, like when the boys begin to morph into one another as the video goes on. After the positively upbeat track 'Midnight Memories' was uploaded about three months ago, it is nice to see them taking it down a notch with this new one. 'Directioners' must feel extremely proud of where the band is at the moment and I know that they wish nothing but success for them. Be sure to support the guys and grab a copy of the latest album 'Midnight Memories'.
By: Alexandrea van Huizen One Direction's third studio album, 'Midnight Memories' isn't set to drop until November 25th but they have however, released two singles off it and we can't get enough! The band first released single 'Best Song Ever' in conjunction with their documentary 'This Is Us' and boy was it exceedingly well-received. In a perfect setting, after an extremely catchy dance hit is released, a beautiful ballad will follow. This time round, the ballad is none other than second single off the new album, titled 'Story Of My Life'. To promote the new single, the lads of One Direction, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan tweeted an adorable baby/childhood photo (see below) each and as expected, directioners all around the world could not stop talking about them. I'm sure fans worldwide will agree with me when I say that with this single, One Direction has definitely redefined pop music as we know it. So far, the music video, which everyone has been patiently anticipating, has not been released yet but they have put up the audio version on their official vevo channel on youtube so be sure to check that out. Let us know what your thoughts are below! By: Alexandrea van Huizen The band that did not win the 'X Factor' (seriously, I don't even remember who won that season) has won something even greater than that, the hearts of millions around the world. In the last 3 years, the name 'One Direction' has been everywhere. You can literally go up to anybody anywhere in the world (or at the very least, 37 countries) and ask if they've heard of the band and I can guarantee the answer's gonna be a 'yes'! So, it is no surprise that the band has just released their latest project, a film/documentary entitled 'This is Us'! I'm not gonna lie, it will be epic and you will feel like you're on an emotional roller coaster. You will leave the cinema wondering if you are bipolar but I promise you you aren't. One thing I really liked about the movie was that you could just see that even though 'One Direction' has sold out arenas worldwide, they're just normal guys who still get nervous. The amount of gratitude they have for their fans is unmeasurable. This film is also like a behind-the-scenes on their everyday life on tour and how within the three years of their careers, become more like brothers. You'll get to see them work, prepare for shows but also somehow find time for antics. The most important part of the entire movie isn't the songs or the band themselves though, but instead the message behind. In a word, it's seriously inspirational. You just have these five average boys from working class families who never gave up on their dreams and took a chance. It also shows us that with the opportunity and enough hard work, there is nothing you can't do. The lads were recently on the 'Today Show' and when asked why add to the craziness of cameras following them everyday, band member Niall Horan had this to say. "Well, you know. We always say this but there's only so much you can get across on like a 140 character tweet." I know that 'directioners' all around the world will but I urge all you non-fans out there to just give this humble boy band from the UK/Ireland a chance and see what they're all about. You may come out a new fan or you may have just lost 90 minutes of your life but either way, at least you can say you gave it a shot. The film comes out in most countries including Singapore on 29 August, 2013 so be sure to catch it once it hits theatres near you!
By: Alexandrea van Huizen British-Irish boy band One Direction has finally released the long-awaited music video for their newest single ‘Best Song Ever’ and I have to say, they definitely did not disappoint. Band member Niall Horan even said, "It’s our best video yet!". July 22nd 2013 marked a very special day for Directioners all around the world because that was when the music video came out and already it has garnered over 30 million views on YouTube! The video starts out with the boys acting for about 3 minutes in a little skit which begins with ‘Jonny’ and ‘Harvey’ played by the band’s very own Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, two Hollywood execs talking, when the sexy assistant ‘Veronica’, portrayed by Zayn Malik, enters and sends the band (as themselves) in, to talk about their upcoming movie, ‘This is Us’, set to hit theatres August 29th. The two execs then call ‘Marcel the marketing guy’, Harry Styles, in to further explain their vision for the movie. ‘Marcel’ introduces the band to Liam Payne’s character, ‘Leeroy’, their choreographer for the film and he starts showing them a dance routine, only to find out that the band isn’t too keen on it so he leaves to go work on a different one. ‘Marcel’ shows the band a few styling options but doesn’t seem to get it quite right. And then cue the song! One thing is for sure though, their acting skills have certainly improved since their acting debut on hit Nickelodeon sitcom, iCarly. The other thing is how impressed I was with their character’s American accents (apart from ‘Leeroy’ who maintained his British accent), you wouldn’t even have guessed they aren’t American. Their dance moves toward the end of the song was basically a compilation of all their moves throughout their career. Although I feel it was a pretty darn good music video, it was just so nice seeing how genuinely happy the lads were and that is probably the most important thing because their energy and joy is just so contagious. I think that the message this video is sending out is that even though One Direction has made it into the big leagues, they’re still just ‘five normal lads’ who at the end of the day, just wanna have some fun. It is also a reminder to everyone out there, to not take yourself so seriously all the time and instead, learn to let loose and enjoy life.
